This Week…
June 25, 2013— This week’s congressional roller coaster has begun! I just returned from a very hopeful event: President Obama’s historic speech on climate change in which he announced a Climate Action Plan that includes carbon emission limits on power plants and new clean energy initiatives. I applauded when the President said, “We don’t have time to debate the Flat Earth Society!” Yet that’s the debate that keeps happening in the House of Representatives: this week’s version is a GOP bill that seeks to expand oil and gas drilling off our shores and in the Arctic by... What we’re up against!
March 29, 2013— It’s been a busy first three months in Congress! In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I’ve fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk. I’ve supported budget alternatives that achieve deficit reduction in a fair and honest way —emphasizing job creation, economic growth, and keeping faith with our seniors. I’m pushing for common sense reforms to address our country’s gun violence epidemic. I helped pass the Violence Against Women Act.... Read More

My first week in Congress

In that powerful moment, I was filled with a sense of history, responsibility, and possibility. I disagree with Speaker John Boehner on many things, but I appreciated his eloquent remarks about the sense of awe new members feel when they are sworn in and his urging of all members to sustain that... Friday, November 16, 2012 NEW MEMBER PROFILE: From water to light bulbs, level-headed Calif. congressman is steeped in environmental policy Article by Jeremy P. Jacobs, E&E reporterE&E Daily: Friday, November 16, 2012 Original article can be found byclicking here Talk a little with anyone who has worked with Rep.-elect Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) and one quality shines through very quickly: his ability to find consensus. In September 2006, for example, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) virtually locked all the stakeholders involved in negotiations over how to restore the San Joaquin River in her Washington, D.C., office. Among them was Huffman, then...
